Alchemy: Using Fantasy Elements to Enrich Your Life!

There are no shortage of crystal infused candles on the market to choose from. So in setting out to design a set for Studio Pandemonia, I wanted to create a thoughtful offering that would not only meet the needs of the aspirant by assisting a specific practice objective, such as manifestation, protection, or generating wealth; but also invite them to explore further into their own inspirations! By telling stories about our spiritual exploration, we can better weave these practices into the fabric of our lives. Rather than a 'one and done' spell kit we pick up when faced with a particular challenge, metaphysical tools can become artifacts that continue to entice us to dive back in, wander a little further into ourselves, and maybe see things from a different angle!

So how can fantasy help us better understand reality? Isn't that superstitious, illogical, or even delusional? Well, not at all. A literal belief in the supernatural is not required to reap the benefits of metaphorical play. Exploring fantasy themes encourages imaginative thinking and creativity. This can lead to the development of innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box. But if dragons aren't real, what purpose could they serve in mental mapping? Mythical creatures often carry symbolic meanings. Using them even in a secular context allows individuals to explore and understand metaphorical aspects of life, making it a tool for introspection and personal growth.

Creating narratives with fantastical elements can provide a safe space to explore emotions and challenges. It allows individuals to face difficulties metaphorically, promoting emotional resilience. This is especially obvious for children, who use these story templates as a scaffolding later to hang knowledge they glean from their world and put it in order. Without such templates, it can be difficult to create meaningful links between people, places, and things! Having some familiarity with the rhythms and patterns helps to integrate information quickly, and prevent misinterpretation.

Through the exploration of mythical stories, individuals may encounter characters who embody virtues such as courage, wisdom, and compassion. Reflecting on these virtues can inspire the cultivation of similar qualities in one's own life. Using our Gift of Virtue deck, you can easily create a visual spread of the virtues you are cultivating, or place specific cards next to an offering on your altar as a reminder on your path!

In essence, using fantasy themes in a secular manner provides a rich tapestry of symbols and stories that can be powerful tools for personal development and well-being. It's a way to tap into the deeper aspects of the human experience without necessitating a belief in the supernatural. With that in mind, lets explore these four iconic mythical creature archetypes!

* Unicorn Horn - Yellow - Stamina - Compassion/Love

Cocoa Butter Cashmere scented candle topped with a Selenite spiral pendulum crystal and Moonstone chips.

The complexity of warm spices, rich cocoa butter, olive wood and a touch of coconut sweetness combines to create a truly relaxing fragrance.

In mythology, unicorn horn is believed to possess powerful purifying properties, capable of cleansing negative energies from individuals, spaces, or objects.

It is associated with protective qualities, creating a shield against malevolent forces or harmful intentions. It is thought to heighten one's spiritual awareness, making it easier to connect with higher realms and divine energies.

To infuse this effect into the candle Selenite is used, being known for its exceptional cleansing properties, both for energy and the environment. It can clear negative energies from crystals, spaces, and individuals. It is associated with mental clarity and enhanced mental focus, making it a useful tool for meditation and concentration. It can recharge and amplify the energy of other crystals and gemstones, making it an excellent companion for crystal work. Simply clean off the pendulum with hot soapy water and attach chain to use in your divination practice!

Moonstone is closely linked to the divine feminine and is believed to enhance the feminine aspects of intuition, receptivity, and nurturing. It is associated with heightened intuition and psychic abilities, aiding in divination and connecting with the subconscious. Moonstone is thought to bring emotional harmony, alleviating stress, anxiety, and emotional turbulence.

* Phoenix Feather - Blue - Mana/Magic - Wisdom

Blue Sage & Cypress scented candle topped with electroplated black Tourmaline and Sodalite chips.

Airy top notes of ozone, green floral, and marine are tinged with apple and mint. Leafy green sage leaves and fragrant eucalyptus compose the heart of this scent, which rests on a woodland base of moss, sandalwood, and balsam.

Phoenix feathers are often associated with themes of rebirth and renewal, much like the legendary phoenix itself, which rises from its ashes. They are often depicted as able to revive fallen comrades, or transmute tragic circumstances. Inspired by the feathery appearance, this lovely black tourmaline crystal beckons to the imagination, as a shiny reminder of the world of possibilities that lay ahead each day! It is very hard to hold one and not be inspired to look for the magic in even mundane daily activities.

Tourmaline is great to keep around a desk or workspace to energize and engage the intellect. Sodalite is associated with mental clarity and enhanced rational thinking, making it a great aid for problem-solving and decision-making. It promotes emotional balance, helping individuals express themselves and communicate more effectively. It is often associated with the throat chakra, enhancing communication and self-expression.

Sodalite is said to inspire creativity and artistic expression.

* Dragon Heart - Red - Health - Power

Dragon's Blood Resin scented candle topped with Carnelian heart palm stone and raw Garnet chips.

A deep, sultry, spicy floral-citrus fragrance with a mulled orange rind top-note, a floral heart of geranium, rose, lily, orange blossom and star anise, finishing with a heavy, powdery vanilla-musk, spicy clove and patchouli dry-down.

In many mythologies, a dragon's heart is a symbol of strength and courage. Possessing or harnessing the essence of a dragon's heart is believed to imbue individuals with these qualities. (Western) Dragons are often associated with fire, and their hearts are considered to carry potent fire energy, symbolizing passion, transformation, and power. Dragon heart imagery or talismans can be used to empower individuals, helping them overcome challenges and obstacles. They may be associated with the ability to manifest one's desires and ambitions.

Carnelian is believed to boost motivation and drive, encouraging action and goal achievement. It is known for enhancing courage and self-confidence, helping individuals overcome fears and take on new challenges. It can provide a boost of physical energy and vitality, making it helpful for those feeling fatigued or lacking energy. Carnelian is often linked to the sacral chakra, which is associated with emotions, sensuality, and creativity.

Garnet is often associated with passionate love and desire. It can ignite and intensify feelings of love and devotion. This gemstone is believed to increase energy levels and overall vitality. It is associated with regeneration, both on a physical and spiritual level. It's considered a protective stone.

* Philosopher's Stone - Grey - Catalyst - Manifestation

Amber Oud scented candle topped with raw chunk Pyrite, aka Fool's Gold.

Decadent woods & oriental notes awaken the ambiance with an intoxicating drizzle of golden amber.

The Philosopher's Stone is a legendary alchemical substance believed to have the power to transform base metals into precious ones, such as turning lead into gold. In metaphysical and magical traditions, it symbolizes profound transformation, both in the physical and spiritual realms. In alchemical symbolism, the Philosopher's Stone is also associated with the quest for immortality, both in a physical and spiritual sense. It's linked to spiritual enlightenment and the pursuit of higher wisdom.

The Philosopher's Stone is seen as a path to greater understanding. The stone represents the achievement of universal harmony and balance, symbolizing the union of opposites and the resolution of conflicts. In personal transformation, the Philosopher's Stone is seen as a metaphor for inner growth and self-improvement. It encourages individuals to overcome challenges and evolve spiritually.

Pyrite is often called "Fool's Gold" due to its metallic appearance, and it's associated with wealth, prosperity, and financial success. But like the Fool in the Tarot, this is understood to be a step in the journey of life, achieving personal immortality through constant evolution and growth. The willingness to be a fool is the first step on the road to becoming a master! Thus, Pyrite reinforces these ideas about alpha and omega, and keeping a chunk around serves as reminder of our free will and ability to take our power back when we feel helpless. It is believed to have protective properties, shielding against negative energies and environmental pollutants.

Pyrite is associated with boosting physical and mental energy, helping to combat fatigue and increase vitality. Similar to the concept of Fool's Gold, pyrite is linked to manifesting one's desires and goals. It can enhance self-confidence and strengthen one's willpower to overcome challenges.
